And I’ve subscribed to your blog!
Hmmm…I want to read more, and will, but I am transfixed by the photo at the top of the blog, wow, I’d like to know more about it.
SurfaceEarth – I don’t know exactly where I obtained this photo, but I like it very, very much. For some reason it transfixes me also – so different and such beautiful use of color. Glad to have you aboard!
I wanted to put you on my blog roll but can’t find it, cause i really like your words

Are you really sure it is a 100 years old.

I started reading some of your blog yesterday, but was interrupted (work stuff, grrrr). Interesting, I’m coming back for more.
Yay, KC! My dad lives there. I grew up in Lawrence, KS.
Extra: I love Lawrence. Great college town – Go Jawhawks! Thanks for stopping by.
Oops – Jayhawks. Damn laptop keyboard.
Hi,
Sorry to contact you out of the blue like this. I hope you don’t mind. I am getting in touch from a TV company. We specialize in making drama’s and documentaries for all the major UK broadcasters. I’m working on a documentary for UK television about single women looking for love..
It’s a bit of an odd request but I wondered if you could help point me in the right direction. I am looking to get in touch with a UK female blogger who writes openly and candidly about love and relationships and wanting to find her Mr Right –i.e a Bridget Jones of the blogging world. At this stage it’s for research only and I wondered if you could recommend anyone who writes such a blog and who lives in the UK who you think would be good to talk to.
Thanks for your time.

thank you
Yeah! New people! Hang out here long enough and you will be as corrupted as the rest of us… I checked your site out today, good stuff!
Laughing at shit? Like shit shit?
Well, not generally! Ya know, shit, like everyday shit.
I spend a lot of time laughing at shit, too. yer getting blogrolled over on Holocaust Labs.
Oh, mama’s loving that! I shall reciprocate, Herr Doktor.
Reciprocation. Love it.
Ive always thought that ‘reciprocate’ sounded a little naughty.
Oh, twue, twue! (I’m still channeling Blazing Saddles today, can you tell?)
Ya know, I had never seen that movie until like 2 years ago .. I had always heard about it, but never saw it .. Loooove it!
Excuse me while I whip this out .. !
Hey, did you get a chance to use the word ‘hornswaggler’ in a sentence yet?
I did. I told the ol’ man to get his hornswaggler ass in the bedroom for a morning romp *blush*
Nice use and word placement there, Red!
Austin?! Man I love that place. I would rather live there than Dallas.
It was great back then – not nearly as small city funky today as it was back in the good ‘ol days!
you should have a “search this blog” link somewhere on here. i want to read your “what men think about” but there are tooo many posts to weed through!
Wow, I never use the search anywhere, so never thought about that. I will take that under advisement! Here is the link though: http://observantbystander.wordpress.com/2007/07/25/what-do-they-think-about/
Hello Observant,
I’m a 48 year old Journalist in Houston. I too lived a somewhat Bohemian existence in Austin—back when it was authentic. Not sure what that city has morphed into these days, but it isn’t anything like it was. It now tries to hard to be hip and cool. Decades ago, it never had to try. Austin just “was”.
Getting to the issue at hand…or at pelvis:
My uterus is an asshole magnet. You mentioned a similar situation when you used to encounter Mr. Wrongs–incessantly. You’re an interesting writer; you write as you feel and I appreciate that style.
Someday, I’d hope you share this experience. How you finally got it right and what all went into that search and discovery. I know love and finding it are idiosyncratic and that luck plays a major role, but I’d like to believe that there’s still hope.
I NEED to believe there’s still hope.
I laugh daily and seek the funny in every truth. I still learn hourly. While that’s important and relevant, I just wish like hell I had a study partner.
Thanks,
Laurie Kendrick
Laura, when did you live in Austin? I was there 1975-1991 – the glory years. Spent many, many nights holed up at the Armadillo, drinking beers and etc…
I’ve started writing about that search for Mr. Right recently (see 9/30/07 post re: The Power of Female Friendships). It’s difficult to write such downer stuff though and I certainly don’t want people to think I’m trolling for sympathy. Of course, writing is a healing process so I’m sure there will be more chapters to come.
Glad to have you on board, Laura. I’m a comment whore, so the more the better! Ha! I’ll stop by your place and browse around later today.
I first started spending long, languid weekends there in 1975–just as the GLORIOUS cosmic cowboy movement was in full bloom. Fell in love with Auggie Meyers, Jerry Jeff Walker, Rusty Wier and of course, the legendary Michael Murphy long before he added Martin to his name.
I was only 16 then and couldn’t frequent any of the clubs, but I made up for that two years later as a Freshman at Texas. I left in 1978 but came back in the late summer of 1979 and was there until June 1985.
Please, do come visit my blog when you’ve a second. We’ve much in common…we’re two years apart and see the same pathos in life.
That juxtaposes nicely into our writing.
Our memories are the quill; our experience is the ink.

I went to see Steve Fromholz a couple of years ago at the Saxon Pub on Lamar. Nice blast from the past! Also heard that Greezy Wheels was reforming and putting out a new album. It was a grand old day, it was! I miss the old Austin so much. By the way, I also attended the Univ. of Texas and graduated in 1983. We’ll have to keep reading each other, kiddo. Nice to have you in the loop here.
hey, how’d you get your avatar up in the corner like that?
What? Who? The yahoo avatar? Widgets my friend.
Love the abc thing. I’m going to copy it!!
Absolutely, kiddo. Go for it.
Hi Observant B. Hope you and our family are doing well. Have a Merry Christmas.
Andrea
hmmm – you turned out to be something of a censor, too.
Hmmm. I’m not sure what you mean by that…
I love your avatar. Did you design it yourself?
No, I’m shamelessly untalented.
Your header pic looks like a snap of Chihuly’s art glass as found at the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas:

Fine blogging there, observant! I spent a fun few days in Austin myself! Hippy hollow, Barton Springs, Continental Club, yep, Austin’s alot of fun!
Laughing at shit is the best way to keep life right. Whatever you are doing that works, keep doing it.
